Dental Implants

If you’re missing one or more teeth, dental implants could be the solution you need to maintain a healthy and attractive smile. A dental implant, an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw, may be used to replace one or more teeth, support a bridge (eliminating the need for a removable partial denture), or support a denture (making it more secure and comfortable).

Dental implants provide artificial teeth that look and feel more like your own teeth. Because they fuse into the structure of your jawbone, they prevent the bone loss and gum recession that often come with bridges and dentures. Dental implants also do not affect the health of your adjacent teeth because they are not altered to support the implant.

Candidates for dental implants must have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant. To learn whether you are a candidate, your dentist will examine your mouth, including your bite, jaws, and gums. You also will need to provide a detailed dental and medical history and undergo x-rays.
